Several issues have appeared recently in voice typing, and they all seem related and have started occurring since Jan 2026. This is Windows Voice Typing in all apps. Notepad, Edge, Chrome, Word etc.
The voice typing starts OK with Ctrl+H
Then starts OK, as you speak the words are appearing on the screen ok as expected then after a few seconds words start being highlighted and are being reworded as it goes.
In such a way the words simplify, summarise etc. it's like Copilot/AI is interfering and rewriting/overlaying the work. Despite Copilot being off.
Setting has no change, with only automatic punctuation being turned on (Which never in the past would rewrite to such a crazy amount as it does now). Fluid distation is not on as this does not work well for voice dictation. The purpose of voice dictation is for our actual words to appear on the screen, as is verbatim, end of story. Minor tweaks for punction is helpful and that is for voice typing.
If I wanted summarisation, clarity, additions, etc., that's what Copilot does, and it can be done later once the words are out.
Language packs are all installed aok and in settings voice access is off as we are typing not controlling. Voice typing is on.
Curiously when the typing starts and starts editing the text in front of me, when you try to edit the highlighting of text acts as the shift key/caps is on and all manual typing appears in capitals. This effect stops after closing voice typing entirely. This has never happened in the past as typing manually would normally stop voice typing and leave the window there ready to press ctrl+H again and resume.
This has made the tool entirely useless for the puspose.
Fingers crossed there is a new setting that just needs to be turned off. If anyone knows please share.
Further, it seems that after a run of voice typing, when you try to start again the microphone wheel just starts turning and never starts again.
