Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
The correct next step depends on the exact verification error: check for an existing subscription if the address was previously used, use GitHub Education if the school domain is unrecognized, or submit the Azure for Students support form if verification still fails.
1. Confirm that the offer’s eligibility rules apply
A valid school email alone does not guarantee eligibility. Azure for Students requires that you:
- Attend an accredited, degree-granting two-year or four-year institution as a full-time student.
- Verify through your institution’s email address.
- Have no other Azure for Students subscription, because the offer is limited to one subscription per eligible customer. ^1^
If these requirements apply, follow the branch matching the message displayed.
2. If the email “has already been used for verification”
- Sign in to the Azure portal using the school account itself, not another personal Microsoft account.
- Open Subscriptions and check whether an Azure for Students subscription is already associated with that account.
- Also check any personal Microsoft account that may previously have been used with the same school address.
- If no subscription can be found, submit the dedicated Azure for Students support form. Include:
- Your name and school email address.
- The complete error message.
- The Microsoft account you want to use.
- A screenshot with personal information obscured.
- Your institution’s name and country.
A closely matched Microsoft Q&A case recommends this form when the address is reported as previously used and portal support is unavailable. ^2^
3. If the email domain “is not currently registered”
This means Azure did not recognize the institution’s domain through that verification path. Having access to Microsoft 365, Teams, or PowerPoint through the school does not by itself establish Azure for Students eligibility.
A Microsoft Q&A resolution documents this conditional alternative:
- Apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack through GitHub Education using the university email and requested student evidence.
- After approval, open the GitHub Education benefits page.
- Locate the Microsoft Azure benefit.
- Start Azure for Students activation and select Sign in with GitHub.
- Ensure the school email is verified on the GitHub account and corresponds to the address used for Azure.
This route specifically applies when the institution’s domain is not recognized directly. ^3^
If GitHub verification or Azure activation still fails, use the Azure for Students support form above. Microsoft’s public documentation does not describe a universal student-ID-only replacement for institutional-email verification. ^4^
4. If no verification message arrives or the page shows a different error
Avoid repeatedly requesting new messages. Instead:
- Record the full error text and take a screenshot.
- Check the school mailbox’s Inbox and Junk/Spam folders.
- Submit the Azure for Students support form with the account, institution, country, error, and screenshot.
- Keep a current student ID or enrollment letter available in case support requests further evidence; do not post those documents publicly in Microsoft Q&A.
Student Ambassador account
The Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors application and Azure for Students are separate processes; failure to activate Azure for Students does not necessarily prevent submitting an Ambassador application. ^3^
Also, this issue is unrelated to the Microsoft 365 Insider, PowerPoint, or Other tags. If posting a follow-up Q&A question, use an Azure subscription or Azure Education-related tag and include the exact verification message, but not the full email address.
