I paid hundreds of. dollars for video and movie downloads and now they are playing with missing sound bites every few minutes. It is not just one, but all of them are missing sound bites every few minutes. I want this issue resolved as quickly as possible.

I should clarify that this is on the latest model of XBox when you could purchase videos though them. It isn't an actual PC, so some methods of fixing it may not be doable.

The AI answer is useless….. I have just over 500 movies/shows and I have the same issue. This needs to be sorted asap before I start making some serious complaints. I have an Xbox series X.

This started for me after the last console update. Same setup, same videos, now with dropped audio every fee minutes.

Uninstaller the app, cold restart everything (TV, XBoX, stereo)

Play one affected download in both Microsoft Edge and the built-in Windows media player; if sound drops in both, disable Windows audio enhancements first, but if it drops only in Edge, inspect Edge’s graphics-acceleration and decoder path.

If sound drops in every player

    1. Right-click the Volume icon on the Windows taskbar and select Sounds.
    2. Open Playback, select the active speakers or headphones, and choose Properties.
    3. Open Enhancements, select Disable all enhancements, and click OK.
    4. Replay an affected section long enough to pass the usual dropout interval. Audio enhancements can cause intermittent distortion or interruptions. ^1^

    If it continues:

    1. Return to the device’s Properties and open Advanced.
    2. Select a different Default format, click OK, and test again.
    3. Press Start, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    4. Right-click Windows Audio → Restart.
    5. Right-click Windows Audio Endpoint Builder → Restart, then test again. ^1^

Repair the audio driver if all players remain affected

    1. Open Start and search for Device Manager.
    2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    3. Right-click the active audio device and select Update driver.
    4. Restart the PC and test playback.

If this began immediately after a Windows or driver update, open the device’s Properties → Driver → Roll Back Driver, and restart. Microsoft documents incompatible audio drivers as a possible post-update audio failure. ^2^

If updating does not help, install the latest Windows 10 audio driver from the PC manufacturer’s support site. As a later fallback, Device Manager can uninstall the audio device and Windows can reinstall it after a restart; save all work before doing this. ^3^

If the dropouts occur only in Microsoft Edge

    1. Enter edge://settings/system in Edge.
    2. Turn on Use graphics acceleration when available.
    3. Restart Edge.
    4. Open edge://gpu and confirm that Video Decode says Hardware accelerated.
    5. Open edge://media-internals in another tab, play an affected video until its audio drops, and inspect the player entry for the codec and decoder.

For H.264 content, D3D11VideoDecoder or MediaFoundationVideoDecoder indicates hardware decoding, while FFmpegVideoDecoder indicates software decoding. If acceleration is already enabled but playback still fails, update the graphics driver from the PC manufacturer, toggle graphics acceleration off and back on, restart Edge, and retest. ^4^

For purchased HEVC/H.265 content, only investigate the HEVC extension if edge://gpu reports License check for app failed (0xC00DB3B3) or edge://media-internals reports HEVC decoder initialization failure. Those specific results indicate that the official HEVC Video Extension may need to be reinstalled from Microsoft Store; do not remove it without that evidence. ^4^

If escalation is necessary, retain the Edge version from edge://settings/help, the edge://gpu report, and the affected player details from edge://media-internals. These distinguish an Edge decoder failure from damaged media or a Windows audio-driver problem. ^4^

Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; the computer still works, but free Windows Update fixes and technical support are no longer generally provided. ^2^
