I would upgrade to VISIO Plan 2 if I can adjust settings, see the coordinates from the origin point, be able to make polygon shapes and make rectangles with a dimension of .1". Can someone help me with this?

Background: I am retired now but I used VISIO in my work before I retired so I am familiar with it. I have an Apple Computer so I really can't use the a Visio Program loaded on my computer. I am currently subscribed to the online version of Visio (Plan 1) to see if I can use it for planning out my wood turning projects. Plan 1 seems to have a lot of limitations that prevent me from getting what I want out of the program.

    Dear Bennie,

Thanks for sharing the background. Using Visio to plan your wood turning projects sounds like a great idea, and I can see why the limits in Plan 1 are frustrating. Before upgrading, please note that the full Visio desktop app included with Plan 2 runs only on Windows. Microsoft doesn't offer a desktop version of Visio for macOS, so on your Mac you would still be using Visio for the web in Safari or Chrome. Upgrading alone wouldn't give you the precision tools you're looking for.

On Windows, the desktop app covers everything you mentioned:

    1. Exact sizes: you can set width, height and position in the Size & Position window, including values such as 0.1 inch.
    2. Coordinates from the origin: the position of each shape is measured from the page origin. You can see it in the Size & Position window or the ShapeSheet.
    3. Polygons: you can draw custom polygons with the drawing tools and edit their points precisely.

If you'd like these features on your Mac, there are a few options:

    • Run Windows in a virtual machine on your Mac and install the Visio desktop app there. This requires a separate Windows license.
    • Use a Windows PC or a Windows cloud PC for Visio, and keep your drawings in OneDrive so you can open them from your Mac.
    • If precise woodworking measurements matter most, a Mac drawing or CAD app may suit your projects better than Visio.

I hope this information helps clarify the situation and provides you with workable solutions. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm always happy to help. Have a wonderful day!
