I have a 2017 Mac that is running Ventura (most current update available for this model). It was running Microsoft 365 perfectly fine until the Microsoft 365 update. Is there a way to run Microsoft 365 on it? Do I need a special link or instructions? If not, which Microsoft Office product would be compatible?

See https://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2023/03/most-recent-office-you-can-run-best-practices/ . According to the article, version 16.100 is the version you need under macOS Ventura.

Microsoft 365 can run on macOS Ventura 13 only by using an older Office version.

Microsoft ended support for Ventura with Office version 16.101, released in September 2025. Newer Microsoft 365 installations and updates require macOS Sonoma 14 or later.

Uninstall your current Ms365, then downgrade to version 16.101 by using this installer.

    After the install,

You can use the instructions below to get rid of the auto updates and any reminder to ask you to update, since you cannot really update any further on your Office apps on this macOS.

    Close all Office apps.

Open Finder, then press Command + Shift + G.

Paste this path and press Enter:

    /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/

Find Microsoft AutoUpdate.app and rename it to Microsoft AutoUpdate.app.disabled

Enter your Mac administrator password if prompted, then restart your Mac.

Yes. A 2017 Mac on macOS Ventura can still run Microsoft 365, but only on the last Office build that supports Ventura.

    • macOS Sonoma or later is required to keep receiving Microsoft 365 updates starting with Office version 16.101.
    • Version 16.101 is the last build that supports macOS Ventura (13).
    • If the Mac stays on Ventura, the Office apps can still work, but no newer updates, including security updates, will be delivered.

    What to do:

    1. Use the last Ventura-supported Microsoft 365 build: version 16.101.
    2. If the current install was updated past Ventura support and stopped working correctly, reinstall Office using the 16.101 installer:

    3. After installation, keep in mind that Ventura will not receive newer Microsoft 365 app updates.

If a newer supported setup is needed, the supported paths in the documentation are:

    • Upgrade the Mac to macOS Sonoma or later to continue receiving Microsoft 365 updates.
    • If the hardware cannot upgrade further, use Microsoft 365 on the web.
    • Office 2021 for Mac is another installable product on supported Macs, but it reaches end of support on October 13, 2026.
    • Office 2019 for Mac is not a solution because it is already out of support and cannot be updated to meet the newer requirements.

    Important compatibility note:

    • If installing from the Mac App Store, those Office apps require a Microsoft 365 subscription to activate and are not compatible with Office 2019 licenses.
