Hello Microsoft Support,

I need urgent assistance recovering access to my Microsoft 365 business account.

Company: Kotilove Oy Account: ******@kotilove.fi Microsoft Entra Tenant ID: af00f66f-8b91-4b43-8a3e-b9b9f66737aa Error code: AADSTS500121

I am the only active user and administrator of this Microsoft 365 environment.

I cannot access my account because Microsoft requires authentication through Microsoft Authenticator. However, Authenticator itself requires authentication, creating an endless authentication loop.

I cannot access the Microsoft Entra admin center or security settings to reset my authentication methods.

I have already tried the available verification options without success. Telephone support has not provided a solution.

I urgently request:

Escalation to Microsoft's Data Protection Team or the appropriate account recovery team.

Verification of my identity and ownership of the organization.

Reset of my existing MFA authentication methods, or provision of an alternative secure recovery method.

Restoration of access so I can register Microsoft Authenticator again.

Please provide a way to contact a human support representative and initiate the administrator account recovery process.

Thank you.

    Hi,

    Some methods here.

    https://yourwindowsguide.com/2026/09/how-to-reset-microsoft-mfa.html

    #1:

Reset Microsoft MFA & Recover Access to Your Microsoft 365 Admin Account using Microsoft Support

Another option is to contact Microsoft support if you are locked out of your account. Please note that this method works only for Microsoft 365 Business accounts; for consumer Outlook accounts, you must complete the recovery form as described here.

    Checklist
    • Tenant details: Your primary domain and initial onmicrosoft.com domain
    • Administrator identity: Global Administrator UPN (User Principal Name).
    • Proof of ownership: Custom domain details and access to DNS records to verify domain ownership.
    • Billing & Account verification: Subscription billing info, company name, phone number on file, and alternate contact email.
    • Partner / Reseller context: Details of former CSPs or resellers (if applicable) and any prior support ticket numbers.
Get the Country Support phone number

Next step, use this Microsoft support document to find the contact number for your country.

Customer service phone numbers – Microsoft Support

Then call the number. See the extensive details on how to reach a Human:

When you call Microsoft support to reset Microsoft MFA or resolve a forgotten password for a Microsoft 365 issue, follow these IVR prompts:

    • Wait out the intro — You may hear a ~30-second automated introduction (e.g., “you can visit the link…”). Ignore it and wait for the menu options.
    • Press 1 — Select yourself as a business email user
    • Press 1 again — Choose technical help

    Automated IVR Conversation Guide

In some regions, the initial interaction is fully automated. Use these answers to navigate it:

    1. What kind of problem are you experiencing? — Answer: Login technical support.
    2. What product are you contacting us about? — Answer: Microsoft 365 Business Standard.
    3. Is this a new case or an existing case? — Answer: New case.
    4. Are you a Global Administrator? — Answer: Yes.
    5. Are you the Global Administrator for the domain? — Answer: Yes, I am the Global Administrator for the domain.
    6. Would you like to be connected with a Microsoft representative regarding your issue? — Answer: Yes, please.
    7. If asked to verify your phone number: Confirm that the phone number is already associated with the Microsoft 365 administrator profile.

Create a Temporary Tenant to Open a Support Ticket

If you get stuck in the automated IVR loop or cannot reach a live agent via telephone, offer this practical fallback method:

    • Step 1: Sign up for a temporary Microsoft 365 Business trial account to generate a fresh tenant.
    • Step 2: Log in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center of the temporary tenant.
    • Step 3: Go to Support > New Service Request and request an escalation to the Data Protection / Tenant Recovery team on behalf of your locked original tenant.
    • Step 4: Clearly outline the locked tenant’s domain, UPN, and case history in the ticket description.
    • Step 5: Cancel the subscription immediately to avoid charges.

Use the Microsoft 365 Admin Account Recovery portal at https://aka.ms/cloud-admin-recovery; it is the case-matched recovery route for a sole administrator locked out by MFA with AADSTS500121, and it does not require access to the affected tenant. ^1^

    1. Submit administrator account recovery

    1. Open https://aka.ms/cloud-admin-recovery from an Internet-connected device.
    2. Enter the affected administrator and tenant information.
    3. Complete the requested tenant-ownership checks. Be ready to demonstrate:
      • Control of the organization’s domain, potentially through a DNS TXT record or website file.
      • Microsoft 365 subscription or billing details.
      • Information about the tenant and administrator account.
    4. Record any request, case, or correlation number.
    5. If verification succeeds, complete the offered recovery action. Depending on the workflow, this may allow an emergency administrator to be created or the existing administrator’s MFA registration to be reset. ^1^

Do not post billing information, DNS verification values, account identifiers, or other ownership evidence in this public Q&A thread. Provide it only through Microsoft’s recovery or support workflow.

    2. If recovery cannot verify the tenant, request Data Protection/Tenant Recovery escalation

Since ordinary telephone support has not resolved this, call the Finnish business-support number from Microsoft’s regional directory and explicitly request creation of a service request, rather than general sign-in troubleshooting:

    • Finland: (0)9 8171 0400
    • Finland toll-free: (0)800 523 121

These numbers are listed on Microsoft’s official support page. ^2^

Use this wording with the automated system and agent:

This is a Microsoft 365 Business tenant. I am the sole Global Administrator and am completely locked out by MFA with AADSTS500121. There is no alternate authentication method and no other administrator. The Admin Account Recovery portal could not complete recovery. Please create a tenant administrator recovery case and escalate it to the Data Protection or Tenant Recovery team for ownership verification and MFA reset.

Ask for the case number before ending the call. Microsoft Q&A guidance for an equivalent sole-administrator lockout identifies Microsoft Support/Data Protection as the required escalation path when no other administrator can reset MFA. ^3^

Prepare the following privately for the assigned recovery team:

    • Tenant’s default onmicrosoft.com domain and custom domain.
    • A working external contact email and telephone number.
    • Subscription and billing records.
    • Ability to modify public DNS for the custom domain.
    • Approximate account creation and last successful sign-in dates.
    • Existing support and recovery request numbers.

    3. If the portal and telephone route both fail

Create a temporary Microsoft 365 Business trial tenant using a different email address. Sign in to that tenant’s Microsoft 365 admin center → Help & Support → Create a support request, then state that the request concerns a different, locked tenant and requires Data Protection/Tenant Recovery escalation. This workaround is documented in closely matching sole-admin lockout cases. ^4^

Cancel the trial after the recovery case is established and the original tenant is accessible, to prevent renewal charges.

    After access is restored

    1. Register at least two strong authentication methods; Microsoft recommends multiple methods to reduce lockout risk. ^5^
    2. Create and securely maintain a separate emergency-access administrator.
    3. Exclude the emergency-access account from Conditional Access policies that could lock out every administrator, while monitoring and protecting that account appropriately. Microsoft specifically recommends emergency-access accounts for recovery when all administrators are locked out. ^6^
    4. Test both administrator accounts and their authentication methods before closing the support case.
