In Outlook.com, block unwanted mail through Settings > Mail > Junk email, where the updated interface now keeps the blocked-sender controls.
Block a sender or domain
- Open Outlook.com and select the correct account if more than one account is shown.
- Select the Settings gear in the upper-right corner.
- Go to Mail > Junk email.
- Under Blocked senders, enter the sender’s complete email address and select Add.
- To block everyone from one domain, enter the domain under Blocked domains and select Add.
- Select Save. Future messages matching that address or domain will be moved to Junk Email. ^1^
Blocking does not prevent delivery completely; it routes matching messages to the Junk Email folder.
Select and report existing junk messages
- In the message list, select the checkbox beside each unwanted message.
- On the toolbar, select Report or Report Junk.
- Choose:
- Junk for ordinary unwanted mail.
- Phishing for messages attempting to steal passwords, payment details, or other personal information.
- Block sender, if that option appears.
Reporting and blocking are separate actions: reporting helps classify the selected messages, while adding an address or domain under Settings > Mail > Junk email controls where future matching messages go. ^2^
If several selected messages come from different addresses, Outlook may not provide one batch action that adds every address to the blocked list. Add recurring addresses or domains individually under Junk email.
If the sender keeps changing addresses
Blocking one address will not catch messages sent from new addresses. When the same domain repeats, block that domain. If only recurring words or subject patterns remain stable, create a rule under Settings > Mail > Rules and use a narrowly defined condition to move or delete those messages. Avoid broad rules that could catch legitimate mail.
Blocked-list entries accept complete email addresses or domains—not partial text or wildcard entries such as *word*. ^3^
Do not click links, open attachments, reply, or use an unsubscribe link in a suspicious phishing message.
