Work with a session in Perception

The session detail page shows a full record of agent work, including chat and task history, an overview summarizing what happened in the session, a list of input values provided, and a list of output files produced. Use this page to follow session progress, review results, and continue interacting with agents. For information about browsing and filtering sessions, see View and manage sessions.

Open a session

To open a session detail page:

  1. Go to Perception > Sessions.
  2. Select a session.

Session detail page layout

The session detail page has the following areas:

  • Chat (left): The session chat provides an activity feed with updates on agent progress and a place for users to chat with Perception about this session.
  • Detail panel (center): Opens when you select the session overview, an agent task, or an output to view. This can be expanded or minimized.
  • Contents (right): Shows session progress based on the list of agent tasks and their statuses, inputs provided, and outputs for the session.

At the top of the page contains the Session Title, Session Status, Last Activity Timestamp (the time of the last message entered in this session), Session details, which contains the session ID and information about when and how the session started, the Shared Session icon, which explains that shared sessions can be viewed and interacted with by other users in your orgazniation and shows you the list of current sessions participants (users who either started the session, responded to a waiting for input request, or used the chat within this session), and the Stop Session button, which allows you to manually cancel a session and force it to stop running.

Contents sidebar

Note

The contents sidebar is available in all sessions and organizes the session's key elements in sections.

Overview

Select Overivew to open a summary of the session progress up until that point. No overview report will be available yet when a session first begins. The summary is AI-generated and will update as agents complete more work. Select Download to export and save.

Tasks

Shows the tasks worked on by agents in the session with their current status. Each task is clickable to see work in progress, requests for input, or completed results posted by the agent. Tasks only show up in the list and have a status once they have started, which may require another preceding task to complete first.

Inputs

Shows the input values provided when the session was started. If the input is an entity such as a threat intelligence article, alert, incident, etc., then it is displayed as a clickable link.

Outputs

Lists the output files produced during the session by all agents. Select a file name to view its contents, or select Download to save it locally.

Note

The number and type of outputs vary by session and playbook. A session where some agents encounter errors may still produce outputs from agents that completed. If no agents produced output, this section shows 0.

Stop a session

If you have permission to interact with a session, you can force it to stop at any time. This cancels all further execution, but any messages or outputs produced up until that point will be preserved. Sessions that have been stopped by a user cannot be resumed or interacted with further.

To stop a session:

  1. Open the session detail page.
  2. Select Stop.
  3. Review the warning message. Stopping a session:
    • Terminates all ongoing agent work immediately
    • Changes the session status to Stopped
    • Marks all unfinished agent activities as Stopped
    • Prevents the session from being resumed
  4. Select Stop session to confirm.

Warning

Stopping a session cannot be undone. Use this action only when the session is no longer needed or is headed in the wrong direction.

Respond to agent requests

When a task requires user input to proceed, the agent pauses execution and the task status changes to Waiting for input. Open the agent task directly from the tasks list or use the link to the task posted by Perception in the session chat to respond to the input request and allow execution to resume.

For more information, see Approve, reject, or stop agentic work.

Understand session and task statuses

For a description of all task status values, see Key concepts in Perception.

The session's overall status reflects the combined state of all tasks within it:

  • If a user selects Stop, the session status and any unfinished tasks change to Stopped.
  • If any task is Waiting for Input, the session ststus is Waiting for Input.
  • If nothing is Waiting for Input and any task is In progress, the session status is In progress.
  • If all tasks are Completed, the session status is Completed.
  • If no tasks are Waiting for Input or In Progress and at least one task Failed, then the session is Ended with Failures.

Agent Citations

Agents may include citations to reference sources the agent used when they complete work to help you verify the accuracy of the findings. Citations can include URL links, which you can click to open in a new tab, or links to files, which you can open in the detail pane.

Translating session content

By default, session content (including both agent and human user-generated content) is displayed in the language(s) in which it was generated, which might differ from your preferred language. The auto-translate option below the session title lets you translate all messages to the language set in your user profile. To see the original text, turn off the Auto-translate toggle.

Note

Translation runs in your browser and works in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. It does not work in Safari, Firefox, mobile browsers, or InPrivate windows. Some language pairs, very short messages, or complex messages might not be translated.
