Surface 11 No Audio Driver

I have a Surface Pro 11 for Business with Intel. I install the Surface drivers found here (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=108013) but the Surface is still not recognizing it's audio device.

I attempted to use the diagnostic tool, but once it reaches the point where it would test the audio device, it skips right over it. I assume because it's not detecting an audio device as installed.

The surface is under warrantee, but I cannot find a place to submit a support ticket for it. I attempted to access the Surface Support Portal, but I am given a message saying my organization is not supported.

How else can I seek support for this device?

Since your Surface Pro 11 for Business is still not detecting its audio hardware after installing the driver package, I would treat this as a potential hardware, firmware, or device-enumeration problem—not simply a missing audio driver.

The diagnostic tool skipping the audio test is consistent with it not finding an audio device to test, although that alone does not prove a hardware failure.

Use the Microsoft 365 Admin Center’s Help and Support node to open the warranty request even if access to the Surface Support Portal is denied or delayed; Microsoft explicitly provides this as the fallback route.^1^

    Submit the warranty request

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center using your organization account.
    2. Open Help and Support rather than Support > Microsoft Surface support.
    3. Describe the issue as an in-warranty Surface Pro for Business hardware/service request.
    4. Include:
      • Device model: Surface Pro for Business (11th Edition) (Intel)
      • Serial number
      • Shipping address
      • “No audio device is detected after installing the model-specific MSI”
      • “Surface diagnostics skips the audio test because no device is detected”
      • The exact Surface Support Portal rejection message

Including the serial number and shipping address in the issue description can expedite processing.^1^

If Help and Support is unavailable, use Microsoft’s public Support for Business case-creation tool linked under “Still need help?” on the Surface business-support page. Microsoft also lists Authorized Service Providers as a supported alternative, with availability varying by region.^2^

    Resolve the portal-access problem

The Surface Support Portal does not require a Microsoft 365 subscription, but it does require a valid Microsoft tenant and an assigned administrative role.^3^

Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to:

    1. Verify that the organization has a Microsoft tenant.
    2. Create or enable your account in that tenant if necessary.
    3. Assign the least-privileged appropriate role, normally:
      • Microsoft Hardware Warranty Specialist, or
      • Microsoft Hardware Warranty Administrator
    4. In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, open Support > Microsoft Surface support and request portal access.

Those roles can create and manage device replacement requests; Microsoft discourages using Global Administrator solely for this purpose.^4^

If the organization has no tenant, the portal onboarding procedure allows one to be created and states that payment information may be requested for account setup, but access itself does not require a subscription or incur a charge.^1^

If your organization manages the Surface through Intune, an administrator can instead use:

    1. Microsoft Intune admin center
    2. All services > Surface Management Portal
    3. Create service request

This route requires Intune or Microsoft 365 E3/E5 and Surface enrollment through Intune.^3^

    About the missing audio device

The download you used is the listed package for Surface Pro for Business (11th Edition) (Intel), so reinstalling that same MSI again is unlikely to add useful information.^5^

Since the correct package has already been installed and the diagnostic tool cannot detect an audio device to test, proceed with the service request rather than repeating those steps. Do not perform self-repair while pursuing warranty coverage: Microsoft notes that damage caused by self-repair is not covered by the limited warranty or protection plan.^6^

Back up the Surface before shipping it. Once the request is accepted, Microsoft will determine whether the device qualifies for mail-in repair, replacement, or an Authorized Service Provider.
