Microsoft 365 Family already includes the organizer controls for attendee microphones, cameras, chat, and reactions, so do not purchase Teams Premium or another subscription to remove this prompt.
Microsoft’s current feature table explicitly lists Allow participants to unmute and Allow participants to turn on camera for Microsoft 365 Family subscribers using a Teams personal account.^1^ The broader subscription comparison also lists Microsoft 365 Family as the paid personal-use tier, with meeting recording, screen-sharing control, 30-hour meetings, and up to 300 participants.^2^
Restore the Family entitlement in Teams
- Check the Microsoft account attached to the subscription
- Open the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page.
- Sign in with the same personal Microsoft account shown in Teams.
- Confirm that Microsoft 365 Family is active. Microsoft documents this as the way to verify a Family or Personal subscription and detect use of the wrong account.^3^
- Confirm Teams is using that exact personal account
- In Teams, select the profile picture.
- Note the signed-in address and account type.
- If it differs from the account holding or receiving the Family subscription, sign out and sign back in with the subscribed personal account.
- If multiple accounts are present, switch specifically to the personal account associated with Microsoft 365 Family—not a work, school, or unrelated personal account.
- Create or edit a meeting as its organizer
- Schedule the meeting from that personal account.
- Open the meeting and select Meeting options; while already in a meeting, use Controls.
- Check whether Allow mic for attendees, Allow camera for attendees, and Allow chat are now editable. These are organizer controls and some require the paid personal subscription.^1^
- If Family is shared with you rather than owned by you
If the diamond remains
The screenshots show that Teams recognizes “Premium benefits” while the meeting-options panel does not recognize the corresponding entitlement. If the same account shows an active Family subscription but the controls remain locked:
- Capture screenshots of:
- Services & subscriptions showing active Microsoft 365 Family;
- the Teams profile/account selector;
- the locked meeting options and upgrade banner.
- Use Contact us on Microsoft’s Teams subscription page and report that the Microsoft 365 Family entitlement is recognized in the account menu but not in Meeting options.^2^
There is no documented removal of these controls from Microsoft 365 Family in the current support material. Also, Teams Premium is not the appropriate consumer upgrade: it is an organizational add-on requiring an eligible commercial, public-sector, education, government, or nonprofit tenant plus Microsoft 365/Office 365 and Teams licensing.^5^
